ABOVE Sierra Mardel (16.3+ h) winning Reserve Champion at the ATA mare inspection she attended in 9-08. She was not quite 3-1/2 years old.

Sierra Mardel (Leonidas x Savannah) purebred chestnut Trakehner filly. Foaled April 2005

Elegant and refined. A lovely mover. Should mature to about 17 hands.

Leonidas*Pg* (ATA gold performance) is the only living U.S. sire in the top ten list of sires with the highest number of offspring winning USDF-Horse of the Year awards from 2002-2005. The partnership of Hilda Gurney and Mary Contakos is cited in the 8-06 issue of USDF Connection as one of two U.S. breeders consistently in the top five over the past three years. (Leonidas is their head stallion and many of the mares they own and breed are close relatives of Leonidas, like his full sister Lavinia*Pg*. Click for show record.

Leonidas (click for photo) is also a  relatively young sire, retired from a very successful Grand Prix dressage year in 2002 when he was on the B list for the USET team and had a median score of 68.4% at Grand Prix Freestyle. In previous  years he has been USDF open Horse of the Year at Intermediare I Freestyle and USDF open Horse of the Year at 4th level. He is the only Trakehner stallion approved  first by the American Trakehner Association that has also been approved by the German Verband without going through inspection in Germany. Many of his offspring have already excelled in USDF competition through Prix St. George, although the oldest were foaled in 1996, so they have not had enough time to show how far they can go. His offspring have also won numerous prestigious  breeding awards and some over fences as hunters.

The following are some of Leonidas' offspring:

Her dam, Savannah, has already produced outstanding performers like Spinnaker (click for show record). He has been ATA's  USDF reserve champion at training level ('99) 1st level ('00) 3rd level ('02) and 4th level ('03). In '05 Spinnaker was reserve champion at Intermediare I in his USDF regional championship show. Savannah is by the Grand Prix dressage stallion, Falke, a highly rated German Trakehner sire. Falke is out of the same mare as Reiner Klimke's fabulous Fabian. Contact me for more information on Savannah's other excellent offspring.
